The Pebbles We Lay

Sometimes we need  a brick path in life to walk on.  But building a path brick by brick can be a little overwhelming, and when one doesn’t fit, you have to just dig it up and do it all over again.  Sometimes pebbles are just easier to lay, and they still form a path that easier to shape and fix mistakes on.

Wow, was that a good dose of metaphor or what?

If you recall my last post of last year (or not, lol!) I set up some goals for 2014.  Amongst those goals were the big ones:

Buy a pony to train & sell, buy a truck, and buy a trailer.

Well, in addition to that, 2014 is also the year I finally complete other projects, expand my “Willow Tree Equine Services”, and make enough little changes that they all add up to one great big awesome 2015.

It is only 6 weeks in to 2014, and I have to say, I am optimistic about what will happen this year.  I feel like I’ve been creeping towards my goals already, and I’ve even been getting in some time working the horses when the temperature is above 20!

Oh yea… after the January attempt at sledding resulted in a broken sled (cracked due to the cold), I went ahead and bought a wooden toboggan last week.  Today the temperature was around 25, it was sunny, barely a breeze.  Just a beautiful day!  I hooked up everyone to the toboggan in turn.  Here’s pictures of Chewie & Jesse, and brief video of Luke!

Way fun!

I was so very proud of all of them.  Chewbacca pulled the sled a few weeks ago, but Luke and Jesse haven’t been hitched since the end of November.  All the boys hitched up and went along like the pros they are.  They are all amazingly rock solid with muscle, and are maintaining their fitness very well, although trotting through the snow was hard.  You can probably see Luke panting in the video.  Heck, I walked 2 laps around the arena in the mid-calf deep snow, and thought I was going to have a heart attack.  I am so out of shape it’s horrible.  sigh…

Anywho… the boys were AWESOME and it was so much fun.  Even better, I had a friend there to share the fun!  I have some concerns about certain things about the barn situation, (for another post), but mostly everything is going along great!  I do have concerns when everything goes right — usually for me, thing come crashing down.  However, I choose to remain optimistic !  Suffice to say, I need to win the lottery, so I can buy a barn of my own — like the one I currently board at.  Wouldn’t that be nice?

In the mean time; I made some awesome connections during the sleigh rally last week, and my summer plans of volunteering at horse shows are panning out.  I have 2 offers to navigate locally for competitors AND —  Whooo hooo… wait for it…. wait for it……

I have an offer to navigate for a promising up-and-coming national competitor at the Kentucky Classic CDE in Lexington in October!!!!  WOW!!!!!!  She competes with Welsh pony pairs, and has won numerous championships through the North East.  I can.NOT.wait for October!  WOW!!!  Wooooooooo!

Those little pebbles that I’ve been working on for the last many many many years has now finally cultivated into one little goal of mine ~  a book!  I’ve mentioned it several times before, but here it is!!…  Well, the cover art anyway.

My husband, the ever talented graphic designer that he is made the artwork.  I took most of the photos on the cover.  The book has 181 pages, 206 photos, and more information than you probably want to know about horses.  lol!  I actually removed in total over 60 pages of content, and over 40 photos along with it.  I just wanted to stick with the basics, and clearly, there’s so much you can consider “basic”, and how it all interconnects with the not-so-basic.

Still, the book IS DONE!  WOOO!!!!!!

Book cover art

It’s DONE!!!  Yay!!!!

It is a eBook, and it WILL be up on Amazon for sale in about a week or so.  I have to get the ISBN # for it (to make a “for real” book!), and after that, I will keep my fingers crossed and *hope* the formatting is correct and the Amazon upload goes smoothly.  I plan to sell it for $2.99 – and it will be readable on Amazon’s free kindle app available on PC, laptop, tablet, phone, or of course, Kindle reader devices.

I saw something inspirational on Facebook the other day:

RegretsI think this is going to be my new motto.  You may see it appear frequently on this blog!  I have many moments already  in the last 35 years that I regret NOT trying.  However, surviving cancer and realizing who I am, and what I want, has given me a new look on life- sink or swim, I’d rather try — and the books, the horse treats, the photography, and all the other little pebbles I am laying down — are just so I can at least say I tried!

I am VERY excited about this book, and VERY VERY excited about the opportunities to navigate this summer.  I sure hope I can save up this year and get the bigger truck & trailer and maybe hit those very shows next year with a volunteer navigator of my own.

In the mean time, I think 2014 will be filled with new adventures and challenges, and I am ready for both.  I hope  !

So, just to revisit my goals for 2014…

Volunteer:

– Columbus Sleigh Rally –  check.  Goal met.
– Hickory Knoll CDE – navigate, camp out, or volunteer as ground help
– Notara Farm HDT – navigate or volunteer as ground help
– Indiana CDE – ground help?  Navigate?
– Villa Louis Carriage Classic – ground help
– Columbus Carriage Classic – ground help
– Skunk River HDT – ground help?  Navigate
– Kentucky Classic CDE  — navigate

* Possibly volunteer at some local shows that I used to compete at, too

WOW, many congrats Amanda! 😀 You have every right to be really excited! You have a great way with words so I’m sure your book is fun, helpful and informative in equal measure. Good for you!

I have had a couple book ideas in the past myself, and now that you’re able to self-publish with a minimum of fuss I ought to try writing…

Congrats again and have a good time with that toboggan, too!

  2. Wow that’s so true 🙂
