Well, since I have not seen the E.R. (for myself) since according to them 2009 – I guess I’ve been “good” and was due for a little hospital-esque adventure.
Soo… what happened was, I put the boys out in the round pen on Tuesday to run and play. They had not had much running and playing of late. I gave them opportunity, but it was hot and muggy and they didn’t want to run. So, it was a little cooler, had rained all morning, and since the ground was soaked, I decided to give them the day off.
They had a fiasco running and bucking. Of course, I was in the round pen with them to offer a little encouragement. Then, I started to depart and Chewbacca came around to see where I was going and if I might offer him a treat before I left.
When the horses are loose, I make sure – especially with Chewie- to keep pushing them away from me. Those feet go a FLYIN’ and I like to stay a good 15 feet or so from them. Well, I started to shoo Chewie, but in an instant, Luke came flying over and Chewbacca jumped, spun, and bucked.
I saw feet flying and heard a pop.
It took a moment for me to realize my arm was racked in pain, and another moment before I realized I was pouring blood.
Chewbacca’s hoof nailed my elbow. Apparently, I had not gotten far enough away quickly enough.
So, I felt really woozy and was bleeding like a stuck pig. My husband was with me , fortunately, so I didn’t have to drive myself. We went to the E.R. for a check over to make sure nothing was broken.
I could move my fingers and arm, although rather uncomfortably, so I knew I was lucky. No real damage.
The doctors were going to put in some stitches, and I complained a little about what I wuss I am with needles, so then they said they would only do 2 stitches. Well, apparently they didn’t want to deal with me being a whiny baby about being stabbed multiple times, and I ended up in the end with only 1 stitch and 4 x rays.
I’m a bit sore today, but I was back at the barn to offer Luke and Chewie more playtime. Chewbacca never bucked once, lol! Does he feel bad?
I think he knew what happened. Sometimes when he plays, I have seen him buck out near me and stop mid-buck and tuck his butt, like he was going “uh-oh, not supposed to do that”. It was a total accident, and ultimately, I was glad to see the boys so exuberant, because they’ve been working hard lately and have more hard work to come.
I look forward to driving them on Friday, I hope – as it’s still supposed to rain pretty good until then.
So, from today’s adventures, yes, I was right back in the round pen chasing them around. Here’s some pics……..
Till next time!
