Exhausting But Fun….

Well, this was definitely an exhausting weekend.  Saturday was Luke’s first horse show this year.  He hasn’t been shown since May of last year.  Hopefully my husband will get Luke again this year, and I am toying with the idea of showing Chewie in October, as well.  (fingers crossed….) I worked on Chewie’s first dressage test today.  He did fantastic.  So we’ll see.

Anyway, our day Saturday started with a 6am adventure to the barn.  By the time we got to the fairgrounds, a little after  8, we were under a black cloud.  Quite literally.  We weren’t sure if the show would even still go on.  Tornado sirens went off, and the loudspeakers called for everyone and every horse to get inside the buildings.

It thundered, lighteninged, and there were high winds and torrential down pours for about the first 30 minutes.  Then, it rained off an on for about 2 hours.  I have video, when I get it up, I’ll post it.  Complete with rain.  🙂

We packed Luke into a stall and walked around the fairgrounds despite the rain.  We weren’t sure if it would stop raining at all, but we had come all that way.  So we shopped…

…..And we met a ringtailed lemur….

And he was cute!  And soft.  awwwww…..

and he crawled on my husband’s head!

Fortunately, by the time the morning passed, the weather stopped, the sun shone down, and the stars lined up to have a perfect afternoon.  Truly perfect.

I really didn’t take many pictures, at least, not of anything other than my husband!  I was BUSY! whooo boy was  I busy.  The fair grounds were HUGE, and once the weather changed, there were plenty of people, too.  It was Luke’s first time being shown in a fair environment, and he was exemplary. A perfect gentleman the whole time, and my husband had a BLAST driving him around the fairgrounds. I spent most of my time walking around following them with the video & regular cameras, and boy did I get my exercise.

But, I did snap some pictures along the way…

There was a team of 4 of these little guys, and they had a stagecoach to pull!  Super cool!!  Although we didn’t see them in action.

A nice set of haflingers offering transport for people.

Look at those breaks…     yeee haawww.

And the always fun mini drill team:

But we’re here for Luke right?

walking around the fair grounds.

.. first time under a covered barn/bridge/ walkway thingie.  Not quite sure what it was exactly, but we got out of the sun for a while under it.

  And Luke’s area of expertise…

It was an awesome day, and they did excellent in every way.  From Luke’s behaviour right off the trailer to dealing with crowds, gun fire (for a demo), lots of horses, tractors, and all kinds of vendors and things going on.  Luke never put a foot out of line.  In the show ring, he strutted his stuff and damned near looked like he was dancing.  People couldn’t take their eyes off him, and my husband received a ton of compliments.

They had 2 classes, and my husband walked away with both blues.  He won medallions which were really neat, and something different for a nice touch.

And here he is happily sporting them… er…  ???   yea… his “bling” for the day.

Got some good deals on supplies, too, and picked up a new halter for Chewbacca.

Ok, it isn’t lime, but it is glittery.  🙂

And!  Chewie’s lime green harness pad came in.  It’s awesome!!!  I’m just waiting on his lime brow & nose bands, and then I’ll get some pictures.  And I need to get pictures about Jesse.  Some awesome updates on him, too, when I have more energy.

Today I worked horses in the morning, and then popped in to my husband’s car show where he also won a trophy there.  He had a winning weekend.  And we are both paying the price. We are totally wiped.  Boy what a weekend!!!  Do we *really* have to go to work on Monday?!  LOL.

Have a good one!

Go Lukie Pony! What a great guy, and your hubby looks like he’s having a lot of fun driving him. I think it is sooooo cool that you got him interested in doing that and you can share the horse world together. Non-existent hope of that happening here so you are really very fortunate (I know he’s not the most enthusiastic participant all the time, but at least he does it SOME – and look at the results!). Can’t wait to see you and Chewie in the arena!

He isn’t always the most enthusiastic, but my husband does definitely know how awesome Luke is. He loves just showing him off. He has more fun doing that than anything 🙂 And they win, win, win, win. They have more blue ribbons than I will ever have. I told my husband he’s no longer allowed to show locally 🙂 I’m trying to convince him to do a large ADS show next year, but a lot of that will have to depend on financial flow 🙂 It’s in another state, and it’s a 3-day show… so there’s lots of fees, from memberships to hotel/stall… but we’ll see.
I’m looking forward to getting Chewie out into the show ring, too, although I admit, he’s not as impressive as Luke.
