I love when my horses get goof (when I want them to, anyway).
I really do. I’ll always feel like it’s a good release for them, that they’re not always having to work. Yesterday during his drive, Chewbacca ventured into new territory. He went on a totally different 3 mile route, went up 2 large hills, and across fields, too. And, he cantered up one of the hills!
He is really getting to know his job well and is working freely and wonderfully between the shafts. He knows automatically now to trot up hills no questions asked. He figured out pretty quickly that speed up hills is MUCH easier. So now he’s at the point where if he sees a hill, he starts trotting. I don’t have to ask. And yesterday, he started cantering up one of the hills that was long and steep enough a trot was pretty hard. He just picked up the reins like he was saying “hey, mom, I’ve got this” and away he went. Came back to a walk the second he was at the top as always. What a good boy! I love seeing that he knows his job, and that he’s so very willing to do it. I guess after all the frustration, I must have done something right.
So anyway.. on to the playing…
Today was very windy and downright cold and I think everyone was feeling their oats.
They had plenty of revved up energy to blow off.
Moment of take off. Kind of an odd picture, lol! Blurry, because I wasn’t ready.
Chewbacca was spring loaded today.
Oh look, isn’t he flexible. Hmm…
He was pretty much like this the whole time. Couldn’t keep his feet on the ground. Too funny.
Run, Chewie, Run!

Run more, Chewie! Run more!
And Luke of course, copying Chewie, made his horse angel…
Race ya!
Even Pink Dixie got in on the action, showing signs of life for a change! Go Pink Dixie!
And then, while they were running, even though I had the camera and was snapping away, I somehow managed to miss getting any pictures of the drama. Perhaps because I saw it happening before the horses did and was just too caught up in the moment to raise the camera. I watched Chewbacca tear off to the left. I watched Luke tear off to the right. I watched them circle. And I watched them head directly into one another on the same arc.
Did they veer? No. But I did see the “oh shit” look on Chewbacca’s face first as he tried to stop. Luke hit the brakes, but it was too late. I was just watching stunned. Camera in hand, missing everything. Never in my life have I seen 2 horses hit into one other. They read chest to chest and slammed into each other as they both tried to stop. Luke went flying backwards and hit the ground. Chewie stopped, looked, turned, and ran off the other way. No sooner could I try to step forward to make sure the downed pony was OK, Luke jumped up, kicked up, and shot off.
I checked him over for any injuries after he finally stopped running. I don’t think they hit quite as hard I thought. They were both fine. Thankfully they did see it coming and at least tried to stop, which I’m pretty sure lessened the blow.
So, no worse for wear, everyone took off running some more.
I know they love the cold weather. They can just play and play and play and not get overheated.

He seriously couldn’t stop jumping around!

Well, I did get some normal shots, anyway..
3 goof balls..
I think they had fun! And it makes me happy seeing them play so hard. (and not get injured in the process).
Well have a good one!
